Details:

This car was custom built by the current owner and is currently registered as a 1967 Ford Cobra in the state of Georgia. The frame is tubular steel, rectangular for the main side rails, front, rear and intermediate rails and reinforced with 1 ½ inch round steel pipe intended for use in aircraft around the cockpit area, extending to the front of the side rails. The car is perfectly balanced front to rear, and has a total weight of 2,450 pounds. No expense was spared in its construction.
The car is powered by a completely new engine based upon a new 4 bolt main Dart 5.0 Ford engine block. The block was bored 0.060 over, and a new Trick Flow factory balance stroker rotating assembly with forged crankshaft providing a 11.5 compression ratio was installed. The total resulting displacement is 353 cubic inches. The engine’s heads are new Edlebrock Victor Junior aluminum which were ported, polished and matched to both the intake and exhaust manifolds. These heads were chosen because they provide the largest valves available for the engine. The Crane hydraulic roller tappet cam was selected for road drivability and is the power limiting factor for this engine. The intake is a new aluminum Edlebrock Pro Flow direct injection system complete with MSD ignition system. The injection and timing systems were professionally dyno tuned. The injection system is programmable and has an in car plug in programmer. The intake air filter and valve covers are new Cobra cast aluminum. The oil pan is 11 quarts and was designed for racing with a factory provided pick up. The oil filter is remotely mounted in front of the engine.
The new water pump feeds a new oversized new aluminum radiator which is equipped with new dual thermostatically controlled electric fans.
Engine exhaust is through 1-1/2 inch thermo wrapped tubular headers feeding into the 4 inch custom stainless steel side pipe exhaust system with integral muffler on each side of the car.
The aluminum flywheel is enclosed in a Lakewood scatter proof housing. The housing was machine matched to align with the transmission. The new clutch disk and pressure plate were manufactured by Centerforce. The clutch operation is hydraulic with an independent master cylinder. The throw out bearing is operated by an integral the slave cylinder.
The 5 speed transmission in the car is a new Tremec R-600 with Hurst shifting lever, rated for 600 HP. The drive shaft was custom made with extra heavy duty universal joints. The rear end is a Ford 9 inch custom made by Strange Engineering complete with their axles. It currently has 3.31 ratio gears for road driving. The rear end is mounted using 5 hard bars and two adjustable coil over shocks. The 16 gallon foam filled poly fuel tank is mounted behind the rear end.
Because other Cobra owners had complained of excessive heat in the cockpit, this car was built with 1-1/2 inches of mineral wool insulation between the front aluminum firewall and the interior aluminum firewall. Additionally, the front firewall behind the headers was coated with aluminum Thermo Shield.
Braking for the car is provided by dual master cylinders, one for the rear and one for the front. The balance between braking front and rear is adjustable. Each wheel has disk brakes with rotors drilled and grooved for extra cooling. Only the rear wheel’s brake if the emergency (or parking brake) lever is engaged.
All four wheels are provided with adjustable coil over shock absorbers. The wheels are polished aluminum, made by American Racing with the “Shelby” logo in the center on mock knock offs.
The tires are new B. F. Goodrich radials. The front tires are new 275/40 Z 17 wear rated at 340 with AA traction and A temperature. The rear tires are new B. F. Goodrich G Force drag radials P315/35 R 17. The car was professionally computer aligned using all four wheels. The steering is direct rack and pinion. The wood steering wheel is angle adjustable and is provided with turn signals and horn.
The matched gauges for the car are manufactured by Smith. They are mounted in a custom Rosewood veneered dash panel overlaid on 0.080 aluminum. The dash panel also contains two switches providing high, low and off control of the new heated black leather seats, one for each side. The dash also contains two colored indicator lights, one blue for high beam headlights and one green indication the transmission is in neutral. The interior of the car is carpeted throughout, including floor, sidewalls and rear. The doors for the car are non operable in order to provide 1-1/2 inch pipe sidewall protection running through the door opening space. The windshield is hard mounted to the frame of the car.
The exterior of the fiberglass car body was modified by the builder to make it have the appearance he wanted. Doors are fixed inoperable type. The side air vents in the front fenders are custom fabricated and polished stainless steel to match the stainless steel exhaust system. The aluminum radiator is protected against debris damage by a perforated steel screen mounted in front of the radiator. The car was professionally painted using the BMW color deep sea metallic blue in a three step system.
The car has a total of 1,365 highway miles since constructed and has never been raced. It has been kept in an enclosed locked garage when not in use. The 69 year old owner/builder says sell the car. He needs the garage space for other projects.
