1968 Ford Mustang GT500 Eleanor Description

The coolest Shelby Mustang was born when the producers of Gone in 60 Seconds (2000) needed a custom classic car to outshine the modern exotics. But those are the moves...In reality, this 1968 Shelby GT500-E Eleanor is sooooo much cooler. Beautifully built inside and out, you might not notice all the modern upgraded components, because you'll be too busy enjoying the 450 hp Roush motor. And there's only 1,305 miles on this whole build! This car has all the great lines of the original Mustang, but there is no mistaking it for any secretary's car. The customization is apparent from every angle. It starts up front with the dual billet grilles that make way for a new front bumper and racing lights. And speaking of lights, this also gets a custom set of fog lights and cool-blue driving lamps mounted in specially built front panel. The hood pins look like they were necessary to tame this beastly bulging hood (and we'll tell you exactly why they're needed a little later.) The laser straight bodylines even give room to integrate the side exhaust pipes. Out back the flat rear panel and bumper have been de-chromed in true racer fashion. But even without this brightwork, Eleanor shines in many other ways. The superb silver paint with dual black racing stripes has enough gloss to be a mirror. Plus, the shine from 17-inch Edelbrock 454 wheels has plenty of chrome to grab everyone's attention.Take one look at the interior, and you know Eleanor is a serious gal. In between the two rows of black leather seats is a custom fitted roll bar. The moment you sit behind the wheel, you can feel that your bucket has enough bolstering to hug your body in the turns. Your right hand rest comfortably on the B&M shifter, and your left one loves the Grant three-spoke steering wheel that has the old-school wood grain appearance but far superior grip. Behind it are AutoMeter gauges with Carroll Shelby's signature and likeness. Eleanor might be a mean machine, but she also knows how to pamper. This is a power steering car with ice-cold air conditioning. There's also a Pioneer AM/FM/CD stereo system. This is connected to amplified Kicker speakers throughout the car so you can crank up the radio at any speed. But really that's secondary, because your favorite soundtrack will always be exhaust booming from the beastly motor. We know you've already snuck ahead to look at the engine pics, and we want to tell you everything is true. Beneath the show-worthy appearance of all the shiny components, tidy wires, and braided steel lines, lies a true performance heart. This is a fully-built 342 cubic-inch V8 assembled by Roush in the same facility where they make NASCAR motors. The engine includes CNC ported aluminum heads, hydraulic roller cam, forged crank, forged pistons, and forged H-beam connecting rods. It's topped with a Holley four-barrel carburetor, Edelbrock Victor Jr intake, and MSD ignition. Plus, just to remind you about the craftsmen who built your motor, it has a Roush air cleaner and valve covers. This is a 450hp/420lb-ft package that will make you the new king of the streets. But this professional build is far more than just a monster motor. The performance-built Modern Driveline Tremec TKO500 five-speed manual can reliably handle the motor's huge power, and the Ford 9-inch Detroit Locker rear end gets it all to the ground. Traction is excellent with super sticky Sumitomo HTRZ tires backed up by SSBC four-wheel disc brake system that includes slotted rotors. It actually won the 2014 Goodguys Southeastern Nationals 50th Anniversary Mustang Pick. Oh yeah, did you remember that this car only has 1,305 miles on the odometer since built? We were too busy telling you about all the lust worthy features to remind that you will be the one to really break in Eleanor. That is, if you're quick enough to grab this super fast custom.
