1946 Chevrolet Other Pickups half ton Description

1946 Chevrolet Rat Rod or Hot Rod still wearing original paint on the cab, body and fenders (its gone on the short box bed).It is an original body (i think the bed too) that sits on a more modern S-10 2wd chassis. Powered with a votex 350 backed up with a 700R4 trans with Lokar shifter. Truck is big time lowered (no air ride) and rolls on large 22 inch chrome wheels. Did I say the paint is original? It is. Green top and black fenders with even abrushed pinstripe. No clear coat or other paint covers the paint. NO BONDO but there are a few holes/cracks and slight surface rust. The look of the truck draws stares and smiles all the time. Floors are the only metal I know that was ever replaced but had to when we could not save the battery box (these came in the floor originally).
Mechanically, the gas tank is under the bed and battery moved from the floor to behind the right front fender (really the fenders are that big). I have a remote jump post block if you need you jump another vehicle that is easy to get to. We have power brakes with disc in front and drums in the rear. Pads and shoes are all new. Power steering added 2 years ago. Radiator is new aluminum and air is pulled via an electrical cooling fan. Gages are from Dolphin and they all work. Gas gage functions but could use adjusted (more resistor) to show more needle swing. Steering column is both tilt and telescoping and the steering wheel is big and red from a 1950's Chevy truck.
Other options include:
- New JVC radio head with Polk AMP and Sub. Four Alpine speakers also.
- Underbody RED LEDs. Nice looks when parked or used as a Halloween display
- New Holly 680 Carb
- New electronic distributor. No starting issues ever
Some bad, of course. Could use new door seals and window tracks. Driver side window is cracked. One rear brake light is out. Heater blows but heat volume is tiny.
This vehicle turns heads and makes smiles. I am stopped constantly at lights or stop signs. REALLY. Kids thinks it is a vehicles from Disney's Cars movie. The older adults want to sit in it as they owned something that old and both the Hot Rodders give a thumbs up andthe Ratters just nod their heads.
Other positives are:
- it is just unique and I think nicely done
- Stance is great and it is simple with NO air bag complexity
- Original paint and so is the seat (seat from a 1942 Chevrolet Fire Truck
- Dependable. I drive it to work at least once a week every summer. It is a 40 mile round trip
- Won work car show and placed 2nd 2X. I work for a car company too
- Rear bumper attachment fixed and bumper is straight
- Draws a lot of attention on the road, when garage sale shopping or at the mall. Yes I drive itwhen ever I can except in rain or chance of poor weather.
- Haggerty Insured
I have the reserve set fairly and this just covers the receipts I have in the vehicle and no profit as this is my hobby and not a business.
